Dear Reader,
I have been negligent with this newsletter; please accept my apologies. Much effort in the past year has been put forth in conducting research, gathering further information, arranging for the use of photographs and compiling the detailed and engaging new biography of H. H. Bennett which will be available in early autumn, 2010. We did get up to Door County in autumn, where I taught my annual workshop, but other than that I've been pretty much glued to my desk.
I've also been researching my new novel, "The Waters of Star Lake," which is just beginning to take shape. This will combine northwoods exploits of John Dillinger and current controversies about wolves. My publisher and my readers would like the manuscript ASAP, but I'm determined to have a life while writing this book; i.e. spend some time gardening this summer, maybe golf, walk the dog every day, get out of my study and enjoy the fresh air. Last year was difficult. I want to have fun!
Meanwhile, I'm thinking that my scholarly research into the life of Achsa Sprague may become a historical novel told by her sister Celia. Stay tuned for that. More news will be forthcoming in a short time. What would you think about a historical novel? It's a colorful story, sex and intrigue, poetry, spirits (the ghostly kind) and suspense. Interested?
