Scribbler of Note

I need to learn now to do this blog stuff, so here we go:  My October workshop at The Clearing on Friday, October 3rd will be "Keeping it Real: Poems and Prose," and we'll look at incorporating events from real life (our own and others') into our creative work.  This is what we do in the summer, week-long workshop ("Writing Personal Fiction") but that's (duh) only concerned with fiction.  Except for the afternoon of the last day when we play around with some poetry just for fun.  In case you're interested, the summer workshop runs from June 22 - 28 and I think there are only a few spaces left.

Other news: Blurbs from esteemed authors are coming back after they've read and reviewed the Night Sisters manuscript.  Lots of complimentary things being said, which is very encouraging!  I can't wait for the Book Launch on Sunday, August 24th at the Wonewoc Spiritualist Camp, because much of the novel takes place on that site and I'm hoping we'll have friendly spirits with us for my first reading.  It's a beautiful place, very serene, and has been in existence since 1894.  Join us there?

New work:  I'm still fumbling around with the Achsa Sprague biography, not quite satisfied with what I've done or the way I've told her story.  Am giving some thought to an historical novel so she can tell it in "first person" with help from her sister Celia who made her home in Oakfield, Wisconsin -- near Fond du Lac.

Bringing out a new novel is incredibly exciting.  I hope you'll embrace Night Sisters with the same enthusiasm I felt while writing the book.  I love the cover, my editor was wonderful to work with, the story is funny and scary.  But having it published at last truly is like giving birth!  And I'm only now losing my "baby-weight" because when I write I nibble constantly on dark chocolate with almonds.  Well, anything that's salty and crunchy; I'm not fussy.

I tried to write a newsletter for the "Newsletter" page and even sent it out to my subscriber list by clicking the send newsletter button, but nothing happened and I lost everything I wrote.  It was brilliant of course and I cannot recapture it.  Damn.  Outwitted by technology once again!  Tomorrow is another day...

It's time to register for my writing classes at The Clearing in Door County, before they're filled.  "Writing Personal Fiction" is June 22 - 27; check www.theclearing.org for a description of the class.  On Friday October 3rd I'll teach a one-day workshop that will incorporate both poetry and prose.  Don't have a catchy title for that yet but will let you know, soon!

Okay, I am absolutely befuddled.  If you've found your way here, I'll eventually find out -- but this new webpage design has tested my meager powers of computer communication.

Here's some news: we've just decided on a cover design for Night Sisters and it's eerily beautiful so my readers will be pulled into the story.  Each step in creating this book has been great fun.
